A post office in Essex could be set to close in the near future, it has been claimed.

Dunmow's post office could be closed after it was revealed that sorting duties are being moved away from the site.

It has been revealed that employees are to work at a sorting office in nearby Braintree, which postmen believe could impact on parcel delivery services in the local area.

According to the Dunmow Broadcast and Recorder, the town's council is already looking into ways in which they can guarantee the rest of the local post office services will continue to run.

Councillor Frank Silver said: "It is a risk that if we lose the sorting office the post office may go with it.

"With queues out the door on a regular basis we know it is a service the Dunmow people will want to keep."

It was recently confirmed that a post office in Harrow-on-the-Hill is to be closed.

The Harrow Times claimed talks on the future of the site broke down.
