Warminster's town hall has been put up for sale on eBay as locals fight to raise enough cash to buy the building and have it restored.
The property is located in the centre of the Wiltshire town and was designed by architect Edward Blore, who also designed Buckingham Palace. The Grade II building has fallen into disrepair after lying empty for a number of years.
Speaking to the Wiltshire Times newspaper, local councillor and member of the town's preservation trust, Chris March, said fundraising efforts will need to be stepped up if the group is to buy the building and prevent it from slipping into the hands of property developers.
He said: "They have been promising an auction for some time now so it is not really a surprise, but it is still a bit nail-biting.
"If it was cleaned up it would provide a big lift for the town."
Although bids on the town hall are not being accepted through eBay as it is a classified listing, the building will feature in an auction due to be held at Bristol Zoo on July 27. A guide price of £200,000 has been given.
