Bafta is to create a new awards category for social media gaming from next year.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) is to add a new award for social media gaming, which parcel delivery
firms using a social networking strategy may want to aim for next year.
Browser-based games such as Farmville, Restaurant City and Mafia Wars will be recognised with a new award from Bafta in 2011. According to the organisation, more than half of users on Facebook regularly play such games.
"The rise in popularity and sophistication of social media gaming has been meteoric," commented Ray Maguire, chairman of Bafta's Video Games Committee.
"It is only right to recognise the hard work, fantastic creativity and great success being demonstrated in this new area of the industry."
The awards will be given at the Game British Academy Games Awards on March 16th 2011.
It follows news that social gaming company Zynga has released the hugely popular Farmville game on the iPad.
