Scottish island landowner bids to do a swap on eBay

The owner of a 605-acre plot on the Scottish island of Mull has put the land up for sale on eBay.

Hugh Balfour Paul had tried to sell the land through traditional estate agents for nine months without success, the Scottish Daily Record reports.

He is hoping to get about £340,000 for it, or the offer of an exchange for land to a similar value in France, Spain or Italy.

The eBay listing says the land has "stunning sea views", and rather than be developed for a home, Mr Paul believes it could be planted as woodland, or used as the site of a wind farm.

"I thought I would put it on eBay because it has a big audience," said Mr Paul, who lived on Mull as a child, where his parents had a farm.

He now lives away, but bought the land four years ago. He says, though, that work commitments have prevented him from spending much time there.

The asking price of £340,000 is £40,000 less than it was being marketed for through an estate agent.
