A run-down former theatre in a Texas town is up for auction on eBay, after its owner realised his plan to restore it was too ambitious.

Cal Collins bought the former Granada Theater in Plainview five months ago from its former owner, a cinema chain.

But he soon realised that the travel distance from his home made his plans to restore the 1927 building impracticable, so he has decided to put it up for sale on eBay.

A local businesswoman has expressed an interest in buying it, but she is believed to be up against about 100 people who have placed the building on their watch list.

Seller Collins told the local newspaper, the Plainview Herald: "I don't expect to get rich off it", and added that he would end the auction as soon as he got what he termed "an acceptable offer".
