Former Amazon MD appointed to top ASOS role

A former top boss with Amazon has today been unveiled as the new chairman of online fashion retailer Asos.

Brian McBride worked at Amazon for nearly six years, and has a background slanted towards IT, having previously worked at Dell, and being the current chairman of IBM subsidiary Mxdata.

It's an important change for Asos, as McBride replaces Lord Waheed Ali, who has been with the company since its inception.

Nick Robertson, Asos CEO, said McBride's arrival would coincide with the company's efforts to "internationalise the business and march towards our target of £1 billion sales per annum."

McBride has previously worked with the British Retail Consortium and Celtic Football Club. He said: "I believe [Asos] has the platform, proposition and ambition [to become] the fashion destination for 20-somethings, globally.”

Last month, ASOS reported a 15 per cent rise in its quarter-on-quarter UK sales.
