Invitations to a press conference sent out by Amazon this week have fuelled speculation that the company will use the event to unveil the new Kindle Fire 2.

The notes, including one sent to Pocket-lint.com, give nothing away, simply saying "please join us for a press conference". But the site's writers have put two and two together, and believe that Amazon is planning to roll out its new tablet device, ready to take on the Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad mini in time for the festive season.

As the original Fire has yet to break cover in the UK, there is speculation of whether Amazon will bypass the original Kindle Fire and bring the Fire 2 here instead.

Pocket-lint also points out that, with similar announcements already trailed for that same week by Motorola and Nokia, and news of the iPhone 5 also expected any time, it's looking like being a busy time for gadget fans.
