Post Strike Boosts Parcel Trade

FEARS that tomorrow’s postal strike could delay Christmas packages has boosted turnover at a Bolton online parcels delivery firm.

Parcel2go.com bosses have reported a huge increase in online business since Royal Mail workers revealed plans for a one day strike.

The company’s business is growing month on month anyway — but it says recent business has increase by 15 per cent, week on week.

The firm says that customers are turning to other delivery companies, including Parcel2Go.com, because they are worried the Royal Mail strike will delay Christmas present deliveries.

Its business development director, Richard Adams-Mercer, said: “We expect an increase in business at this time of year — but this is out of the ordinary.

“Even though the strike is scheduled to be brief, the suggestion that it will hamper pre-Christmas deliveries has created something of a fear factor.”

The firm’s trade benefited from a previous postal strike in October, 2007, when its orders rose by 115 per cent virtually overnight.
