Parcel deliveries from online retailers are expected to grow in the future, according to an e-commerce consultancy.
However, web-to-store transactions are expected to become even more popular.
Chief executive of consultancy Javelin, Tony Stockil said that by 2020 there will be nearly as many web-to-store deliveries as in-store purchases, while direct parcel delivery will rise from seven per cent to 14 per cent of all transactions.
He told the Financial Times: "A lot of people forget that home delivery is not always that convenient, if you're not at home to receive a parcel, or you have to miss work to wait at home."
As a result of this trend, many online-only retailers are trying to find a presence on the High Street.
Fashion specialists Asos are currently in talks with Alliance Boots, about a collaborative deal.
