Glengormley councillor Tom Campbell has accused the Royal Mail of failing the people of Mayfield Garden Village by turning down a request for a new post box to be installed in the area.
Mr Campbell says that, frankly, if people want to send a parcel to Ireland or any other location for that matter, then they cannot call upon the Royal Mail to help them.
Residents had requested a new post box be installed in the village because its growing population needed to have their parcel delivery needs met.
However, the firm rejected the request, leading Mr Campbell to accuse bosses of adopting an unnecessarily cautious attitude to the problem.
The Royal Mail claims that most people live within a reasonable distance of one of its post boxes, but Mr Campbell added that demand for parcel delivery is high in the area and something needs to be done.
