Postal workers confirm their national strike ballot

After weeks of nationwide strike action, postal workers and the Royal Mail have landed in more hot water as union leaders confirm plans for a national ballot.

Communication Workers Union members are set to vote next Wednesday. That could see a nationwide walkout if the majority of union members vote in favour.

The news just keeps getting worse for the Royal Mail, as the announcement to ballot was made as fresh strikes took place in London.

A Royal Mail spokesperson branded the latest decision from the CWU "wholly irresponsible", because talks at senior levels on both sides are still ongoing.

The battle began after postal workers blasted the Royal Mail for cutting jobs and freezing pay. As a result, there are now more than 20 million items undelivered in London.

The ballot result is expected on September 30th – during the Labour party's annual conference. ADNFCR-2658-ID-19356403-ADNFCR
