A two-day national postal strike is now underway after talks between the Royal Mail and union bosses ended without an agreement.

It means nationwide disruption to mail delivery, as up to 120,000 Communications Workers Union members walk out over pay and job conditions.

Thousands of staff have been on the picket lines since 4am as 42,000 stay away from work today with another 78,000 due to walk out tomorrow.

The prime minister has urged the Royal Mail and the CWU to "get round the table" to bring an end to the action.
