Parcel customers in the future could be receiving more deliveries of goods, ordered using their mobile phones.
According to Econsultancy, online retailers should be tapping into the potential of modern phone handsets.
Research by Ovum and Verdict Research show that despite a quarter of people having internet phone access, just over 2 per cent of British adults shop using their mobile phones.
The research predicted however that by 2013, sales made through this method will double, as the technology becomes more widespread.
Senior reporter for Econsultancy, Graham Charlton, said retailers have been "relatively slow to catch on" - but should prepare for more people ordering deliveries from this platform.
Mr Charlton pointed out the recent launch of a mobile site by household name M&S, should help ‘make m-commerce more mainstream’.
