Businesses geared towards the US market that rely on parcel to USA services may have seen a strong second quarter after new figures reveal that American online spending is on the up.
US e-commerce spending was worth $32.9 billion (£20.97 billion) in the second three-month period of 2010, up nine per cent on the same period last year, according to comScore.
This is third quarter in a row where online retail spending experienced year-on-year growth following 12 months of flat or negative growth.
Certain types of businesses in the UK that send a parcel to USA will probably have experienced more of an increase in revenues than others.
Firms that specialise in consumer electronics, computer software, computers, peripherals, PDAs, books and magazine were the most likely to see greater sales, with these sectors performing ahead of others.
Gian Fulgoni, comScore chairman, said the results were encouraging and he remained "cautiously optimistic" about the next six months.
The news comes off the back of figures from Visa that showed e-commerce spending in Latin America and the Caribbean rose by 39 per cent in 2009.
