Florida's natural wonders are often overlooked by Brits heading to the state, one travel expert has said.

And while one parcel to USA firm is helping to fund environmental programmes across the country, Florida is "open and clear for business".

This is according to VISIT FLORIDA's Will Seccombe, who said the state has not been as badly affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill as many people assume.

"Today 100 per cent of the beaches are clean and clear and there's no reason not to be in the Sunshine State," he added.

Meanwhile, parcel delivery firm FedEx has teamed up with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to offer grants to help urban residents with environmental challenges.

Funding a range of projects, from restoring ocean-side bluffs in Golden Gate National Park to re-planting forests in Philadelphia, nine Five Star Restoration Program grants will be dished out across the US.

FedEx vice president of environmental affairs and sustainability Mitch Jackson said working with the NFWF enables the firm to help make communities cleaner and healthier.
