Consultancy for e-commerce, PortalTech say that mobile retail will be adopted by most major businesses, by the close of this year.
However, the firm's research shows that many of it's clients remain unconvinced regarding the benefits of the dynamic.
18 months of discussions with other companies disclose that many cannot see a return on their investment being possible with mobile retail.
Some even see it as a potential threat to their other business venture.
Director of PortalTech, Mark Adams, claims that this view is because mobile is often associated with price comparison sites – which can deflect custom elsewhere, to market rivals.
Mr Adams said retailers need educating that mobile can drive people to websites and into stores, if the service is properly harnessed.
