Talks are continuing between the Communication Workers Union and Royal Mail, in the hope a lasting settlement and to avoid further industrial action.
The talks have been conducted secretly to avoid media coverage, although there is evidence to suggest that there has been progress regarding the pension deficit, regulation and funding for the Post Office.
The results of a strike ballot remain in place, however, meaning postal workers could resume industrial action should some Union demands not be agreed.
However, the union is believed to be resigned to further mail centre closures and that any final deal is likely to result in the workforce being cut.
