On the day eBay expects the highest number of new items being put up for sale, they're offering a free listing day to personal sellers.

The auction site predicts 2.3 million items will be listed on Sunday 17th January, with most being clothing and accessories, followed by jewellery, watches and books.

There are lots of rules if you want to qualify for the free listing promotion, so check before sticking your items up for sale.

They must be auctions, or an auction with the Buy It Now option, and Business Sellers or PowerSellers aren't eligible to take part.

Also cars, property and anything in the 'Mobile Phones with Contract' category are excluded.

eBay's encouraging people to scour their houses for stuff to sell, with the average home in Britain having at least £450 worth of saleable items.
