Parcel courier FedEx have honoured the expansion of the company's new Atlantic sorting hub, with a 5 kilometre run for charity.
Hundreds of people attended, raising $25,000 for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society, to mark the opening of the $150 million runway, at Piedmont Triad International Airport, North Carolina.
As well as handling international parcel deliveries for FedEx, the runway will act as a backup if one of the airport's main strips is unavailable, offering greater flexibility.
Joe Stephens, FedEx managing director for Greensboro, told the High Point Enterprise: "This infrastructure could be deemed the Triad's field of dreams."
He added they have "worked hard with people in the community to better market the area and seek, attract, grow and retain new business with this new runway."
