Three quarters of a million people are using their mobile phone to visit eBay every single day.

The auction giant says an item's bought using mobile web every two seconds.

One point five million purchases took place over Christmas alone, with users from 165 countries accessing the service.

Many of those will be using the company's iPhone app, which has been downloaded six million times since its launch in September 2008.

Lorrie Norringtion from eBay Marketplaces says buyers and sellers are rapidly embracing mobile commerce.

It's as online retailers in general report a hugely successful Christmas period, with an average 51% increase on 2008 figures.
