Courier to Germany firm delivering the goods

Courier to Germany firm DHL has reported double-digit revenue growth in the second quarter of the fiscal year.

The firm's MAIL division reported €3.2 billion (£2.66 billion) revenue, which was almost unchanged from the same period in the last fiscal year.

DHL said that its parcel to Germany business's strong performance offset a decrease in letter post and the loss of its Quelle business in the country.

In addition, the worldwide shipping firm said that internet retail significantly boosted figures.

"Further strict cost discipline and increased earnings in the parcel business more than offset the stable revenue development as well as wage increases," DHL said in a statement.

DHL chief executive officer Frank Appel commented; "We are now reaping the fruits of our successfully implemented strategic initiatives and efficiency-enhancing measures as well as the portfolio restructuring that we have largely completed."

The news comes after rival parcel delivery firm UPS also announced strong quarterly results, reporting that operating profits were up on the same period in 2009 by 57 per cent to $1.4 billion (£900 million).ADNFCR-2658-ID-19919138-ADNFCR
