Parcel delivery firms that offer a courier Germany service for companies involved in cross-border trade may be relatively unaffected by the recession, after it was claimed that business travel to Dusseldorf has stayed strong.

The city is a top destination for business travellers coming for congresses and fairs, according to Fatima E Morawietz from Dusseldorf International Airport.

She explained that the airport had not seen any decrease in passengers in light of the recession.

"It is still going strong – for example we offer six daily flights from Dusseldorf to Manchester flown by Lufthansa," said Ms Morawietz.

Dusseldorf is famous for fashion and for congresses, apparently, meaning that Brits venture to the city for both business and tourism.

She added that the city's Christmas markets are "big business" and are appealing to many tourists who want to come over to do a spot of shopping.

A recent report from Skyscanner, however, found that Dusseldorf fell one place in the top 100 list of flight trends.

The city was ranked 63rd, while Berlin came out 24th and Munich 44th.
