A new European law has been passed to protect Internet users from online adverts that they don’t want to see.
It requires the user to provide consent to advertisers and publishers to allow the use of cookies on their computer.
At the moment cookies can be used if the consumer is aware of them and can opt out.
There are concerns the new legislation will mean people are bombarded with messages asking for consent to store the cookies.
It is part of a draft telecom law that is expected to come into effect in the next 18months.
