Social media has a new comer in the form of Yahoo.

Shoppers will be able to access parcel delivery account information using Yahoo with just the click of a mouse, it has been reported.

The internet firm wants to join the trend to make everything on the Web more social and plans to start offering a service whereby its customers can log into password-protected sites simply by clicking a link, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

The Y Connect service will mirror similar universal authentications systems already available to users of Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook Connect is a tool that allows people to sign into secure sites simply by clicking the "login with Facebook" button.

According to the newspaper, if the move is a success it could help Yahoo to understand its customers more and take a more tailored approach to advertising.

The news comes after it emerged that Facebook and search engine Bing are to team up to make looking for things online a more social affair by including friends' 'likes' in results pages.
