Wormington Post office future unclear

The sub-postmaster resigned in DecemberThe branch on Church Road has been closed since December.

Residents from the village of Wormington may have to use alternative parcel delivery services in the coming months, as the future of the local Post Office remains uncertain.

The branch on Church Road has been closed since December following the sudden resignation of the village's sub-postmaster Heather Wilson, the Daily Gazette reported.

Ms Wilson refused to give reasons for her resignation and the Post Office confirmed that she would be leaving her post, although it would not be drawn on as to why she had left.

The company also refused to confirm that the branch would definitely reopen, the newspaper added.

Ponteland councillor Richard Dodd recently claimed that rural Post Offices in the county of Northumberland are still encountering problems more than a year after a review of services was launched.

Technological failures at outreach services have been a particular problem, the Morpeth Herald reported, which could encourage people to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs.
