A post office in Wiltshire has been closed this week while police investigated an alleged robbery.

Postal services in an area of Wiltshire have been affected by an alleged robbery, according to reports.

In news which may have led local residents to seek post office alternatives, it was revealed that a convenience store in Bowerhill has been closed after an alleged theft of around £10,000.

Thisiswiltshire.co.uk reports that the issue means the post office counter in the outlet has also been shut.

Local resident Sandra Phillips told the news provider: "It's such a shame about the post office, especially for the people living in sheltered housing nearby."

Postal services across the UK are likely to be hit by some problems this week, as strikes organised by the Communication Workers Union are taking place.

Such action may impact on Royal Mail's parcel delivery services in areas including London, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
