Waitrose is expanding its online retail offerings in a bid to compete with its supermarket rivals. UK supermarket Waitrose is set to target online shoppers by expanding its range of non-food items available on the internet. The move, which will allow it to compete with rivals Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's, will see it selling products from department store John Lewis via the Waitrose website. From August 4th, customers will be able to either have the items delivered to their homes or order online and pick up in store. Both store chains are owned by the John Lewis Partnership and it is hoped the move will strengthen ties between the two brands."Working in collaboration with John Lewis and having their products as part of our range will... give us a real opportunity to rival our four main competitors," Waitrose managing director Mark Price said in a statement. The popularity of online shopping in the UK was highlighted by recent research from comScore, which revealed that 29 million Brits used online retail sites at home or at work in May this year.Article Added: 03/08/2009 09:03:40
