Letters have been found unopened and discarded in a recycling bin in Enfield.
People could look to alternative parcel delivery services after news emerged that unopened mail was discovered in a green newspaper and magazine container in Enfield.
Many letters were found in the recycling bin, located outside a Morrisons store, off of the A10, the Enfield Independent revealed.
"If a postman is responsible for tampering with the mail, which we do not know at this stage, it is an offence for which they would be dismissed," a spokeswoman for the Royal Mail told the paper.
A spokeswoman from the Enfield police spoke to the newspaper, explaining that the Royal Mail will carry out the initial investigation.
If the organisation finds that a criminal offence may have been committed, it will pass the information on to the police, she added.
A postman recently told the Gazette News that he was unable to cope with his parcel delivery job, leading him to shred thousands of letters and dump over 2,000 items in a year.
