The Communication Workers Union has revealed that postal workers are being balloted over whether to take strike action.Postal workers in London are being balloted on whether they want to strike over cost-cutting measures announced by Royal Mail. In a move which could impact on parcel delivery services in the capital, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has revealed that employees at 160 sites in the capital are considering the move. According to the union, Royal Mail's plan to impose ten per cent cost savings on all offices without improving services could cost over 1,500 jobs. Martin Walsh, CWU spokesperson for London, said the proposals were evidence of Royal Mail "running down" its service ahead of its privatisation. He added: "The strike ballot in London is about defending the future of Royal Mail and the services it provides to the public." The Postal Services Commission recently confirmed that Royal Mail can introduce a new zonal pricing policy from next year.Article Added: 18/05/2009 09:26:29
