Postman reveals more about 'Sorry, you were out' card use.
With the volume of letters and parcels increasingly significantly over the festive period, it is more likely that postmen will deliver cards saying 'Sorry, you were out', a Royal Mail worker has claimed.
Writing in the Guardian, Roy Mayall, a pseudonym of the postal worker, states that most postmen are committed to providing a good public service but that there will always be exceptions.
He says that after doing the rounds for a while, postmen learn who is likely to be home at particular times and that some just assume that nobody will answer the door.
Instances of undelivered parcels are always likely to be higher at Christmas time, Mr Mayall added, something which could encourage others to use Post Office alternatives in the future.
The BBC recently reported that an investigation has been launched by Royal Mail after more than 3,500 pieces of mail, some of which were delayed by up to nine months, were found at a delivery office in Edenbridge, Kent.
