A UK base would be a good start in Europe for Twitter.

Parcel delivery and courier services would benefit from Twitter having a base in the UK, it is claimed.

Having Twitter's new European headquarters in London would make "perfect sense" to establish a "stronghold in Europe", according to the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA).

The Daily Telegraph reported this week that prime minister David Cameron and London mayor Boris Johnson urged the social media company to locate its European base in the UK.

London is the "e-commerce capital of the world" and the UK is a "major market" for the microblogging site, BIMA chair Justin Cooke said.

"Many of the world's brands have their global or regional headquarters here means that not just the technology sector but the whole of the UK would benefit in the form of new jobs and increased exports to Europe and beyond," he explained.

Mr Cooke went on to say that having industry leaders based in the UK would encourage talent in the social media sphere.
