Supermarkets 'not going green' with online delivery

Supermarkets 'not keeping to green policies' with online shoppingA study reveals that online delivery services offered by supermarkets could be failing to stick to eco policies shown in store.

Many supermarkets are not taking steps to be eco-friendly with the bags they use for online deliveries, it has been claimed.

According to a survey carried out by consumer group Which?, the results of which were published by the Daily Mail, while many supermarkets may have sound eco policies in store, when it comes to online shopping they are failing to keep up their eco-conscious practices.

For the survey, the group ordered the same load of shopping from stores including Asda, Waitrose and Tesco.

In total, Tesco used 13 bags for the 29 items, with Asda using nine and Waitrose supplying eight, the newspaper said.

Both Tesco and Asda were found to use an entire bag for a single item, such as a loaf of bread.

Using independent food outlets and courier delivery services could help Brits stay green when they are using online shopping. Online shopping could also prove a convenient way for busy people to stock their fridge and cupboards.
