Royal Mail is searching for a new sub postmaster to take over from the previous owner as soon as possible.

Residents in the London borough of Enfield will have to use alternative parcel delivery services for the foreseeable future, as the local branch of the Post Office has temporarily closed its doors.

Royal Mail is searching for a new sub postmaster to take over from the previous owner as soon as possible, the Enfield Independent reported.

Members of the public and local businesses have suffered as a result of the closure as many relied on the branch to send parcels and letters.

A spokesman for the Post Office told the newspaper that there are no plans to close the outlet indefinitely, meaning residents only need to use alternative parcel delivery providers for the time being.

"This closure is nothing to do with our programme of closures. We have no intention of closing it and we intend to carry on providing a service in the area," the representative added.

The future of the Church Road Post Office in Wormington remains unclear after the sub postmaster resigned suddenly, the Daily Gazette reported.
