Stourport delivery office closure 'would hit customers'

The Stourport delivery office could closeCommunication Workers Union representative Michael Dobbins fears the office could close.

The closure of the Stourport delivery office would cause huge disruption to members of the public, something which may encourage some to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs.

Communication Workers Union representative Michael Dobbins told Worcester News that Royal Mail bosses have hired a manager to conduct a feasibility study into the cost of shutting the outlet.

He said that if the closure goes ahead, it will cause massive inconvenience for members of the public and staff, many of whom have worked at the office for a number of years.

"It would have a great effect on people in Stourport if it was to close … delivery times would be later than they are now. A lot businesses like to pick up their mail from the office in the morning on a daily basis. If we move, they won't be able to do that," Mr Dobbins told the newspaper.

Residents in the Scarborough village of Burniston may have to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs in the future, as the local branch looks set to close, the Scarborough Evening News reported.
