Stoke postal workers consider strike

Postal workers in Stoke could be set to strike, according to reportsPostal workers in the Stoke area are considering whether to strike over plans to close a local sorting office.

Consumers in Stoke could soon be seeking post office alternatives after it was revealed a local sorting office may be closing.

According to The Sentinel, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is to ask its members to vote on whether they want to take industrial action over Royal Mail's plans for the area.

Under the plans, around 100 jobs would be lost and services in Stoke will be transferred to Wolverhampton.

Andy Plant, Midlands branch secretary for the CWU, told the newspaper that Royal Mail has "refused to negotiate".

He added: "They know our views that their proposals are unacceptable, but they have said that in this economic climate they will be going forward with their business strategy and it was not up for discussion."

Last week, it was revealed that Royal Mail met a range of post and parcel delivery targets in the last financial year.ADNFCR-2348-ID-19194781-ADNFCR
