Postal workers in Southampton have held a rally against plans to part-privatise the Royal Mail.A march was held in Southampton yesterday (May 18th) against the government's proposed part-privatisation of Royal Mail. Parcel delivery services in the area may have been affected by the decision of around 80 members of the Communication and Workers Union (CWU) to call on support from the public to keep the organisation public. According to ThisisHampshire.net, MPs including south-east European minister Peter Skinner joined the march to highlight opposition to the problem. He explained: "There is absolutely no need to privatise the Royal Mail and there is nothing in the laws that come from the European Union that says that needs to be the case." It was recently revealed that postal workers across Greater London are voting on whether to take strike action because of proposed Royal Mail service cuts. Businesses and households in the area may need to seek out parcel delivery alternatives if the move gets the green light.Article Added: 19/05/2009 09:26:49
