The announcement that Cartmel village is to lose its full-time post office has left campaigners disappointed. The post office in Cartmel, South Lakes is set to only open two days a week after business minister Lord Young announced it will become an outreach service. The news will be a blow to MP Tim Farron and his constituents who have been campaigning for the post office to remain open full time since February, reports the North West Evening Mail.Mr Farron told the news provider that last year's government Network Change Programme concluded that Cartmel met the conditions to keep its full post office."It shows complete ignorance of the realities of life in Cartmel and is a betrayal of the promise made to local people less than a year ago," he said of the latest decision. The post office will now run out of a local Spar supermarket.Last week, it was reported by the local Herald newspaper that a post office located on Plymouth's Southway Drive had been closed after an audit led to its subpostmaster being suspended.Article Added: 13/07/2009 16:21:31
