Parcel deliveries in Ellesmere could be affected by news that the local sorting office is to close at the start of next month.A sorting office based in Ellesmere will close at the start of next month, it has been confirmed. In news which could lead to people in the area seeking parcel delivery alternatives, it has been revealed that Royal Mail intends to shut down the site from June 8th. According to the Border Counties Advertiser, councillors met with representatives from the company last week but failed to stop them from changing their mind, despite a wall in the meeting room being covered with petitions against the closure. However, the town's deputy mayor, councillor Pat McLaughlin, told the newspaper that it may not be the end of the dispute. "We do not take things lying down in Ellesmere, people rally round and fight tooth and nail to keep services that Ellesmere wants-so be warned," he added. The Communication Workers Union recently confirmed that postal workers in London are being balloted on whether they want to strike over Royal Mail's cost-cutting efforts.Article Added: 20/05/2009 09:18:22
