Social media 'no longer optional'

Social media 'no longer optional'Businesses must have a social media presence to keep up.

In order to be successful in business, firms using parcel delivery and courier services have been told they must have a social media presence and be a master of search engine optimisation (SEO).

This is the claim made in a new book by Tom Heatherington called SEO & Social Media Marketing Guide, which aims to give businesses a heads up in the field of internet marketing.

Mr Heatherington co-founded PICnet, one of the first internet service providers in the US and had worked with businesses to achieve marketing goals for years.

Engaging with the likes of Facebook and Twitter is "an integral part of the marketing mix, and it must be executed appropriately or businesses can find themselves being ignored or worse", he says.

Econsultancy recently advised companies not to confuse SEO with social media by turning a corporate blog into a press release site.
