Social media has changed the media landscape for good. The growth of social media has forced traditional news providers to embrace new online platforms in order to survive, it is claimed. Jorg Lyseggen, the chief executive of Software-as-a-Service firm Meltwater Group, explained that it is "hard to overestimate" the importance of social media. In comments once again highlighting the increasing role that social media can play for firms using parcel delivery and courier services in reaching a very wide audience, he said sites like Facebook and Twitter have "dramatically transformed the media landscape and with that the society we live in". "The implications of social media are probably bigger than most of us can perceive," Mr Lyseggen added. He was commenting on the revelations made by Wikileaks, which he describes as "a child of the social media tradition of transparency". Yesterday (December 7th), it was reported that the Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was arrested in London on charges he faces in Sweden. Posted by Matt Watts Article Added: 08/12/2010 16:58:52
