Parcel delivery businesses looking for a leg up on their rivals should consider that customers now use a range of different channels when they are buying goods and arranging courier services.
This is one of the findings from Econsultancy's Innovation Report, an in-depth study of the latest trends in the field of digital marketing and online business strategies.
New entries have been dominated by social media, mobile and online video, the consulting firm said.
Econsultancy research manager Aliya Zaidi said that many companies are now incorporating augmented reality in their online campaigns, indicating that this technology has progressed from just theory.
"The most forward-thinking companies are recognising their customers now use a variety of different channels, and the key challenge is to reach consumers in a personalised and targeted way, across a whole range of different touch-points, online and offline," she added.
In another report, the group said that email marketing is far from dead, despite the growing prominence of social media.
