The growth of social media will be good for jobs, it is claimed.

Businesses using parcel delivery and courier services could be creating more jobs thanks to the spread of social media.

The ever-expanding area of marketing is opening new job opportunities as firms seek people with skills that have not necessarily been valued in business previously, according to the Montreal Gazette.

However many firms are still finding their way with social media and have not yet fully developed a digital strategy to incorporate the new technology.

"Right now, some companies are not necessarily mature in (the) way they view or use social media - but they recognise they need it," Augie Ray, a Forrester Research analyst, told the newspaper.

The comments echo those of .net magazine editor-in-chief Dan Oliver, who recently claimed that there is little in the way of social media best practice, leaving many businesses to find their own way.

"Social media marketing is still in its infancy and will continue to grow over the next few years," he noted.
