US election campaigns are relying more on social media.Politicians are using more than just mail drops and courier services to spread their campaign message. In the US it would appear that prospective senators and members of the House of Representatives are turning to social media to connect with voters. Senator Russ Feingold told WISC-TV: "Now we can communicate with our volunteers and supporters in instantaneous ways in a way we could never do before." He is in a race with republican candidate Ron Johnson, who is also keen to use social media sites to boost his following and win votes. "I think the beauty of the social media is we can get our message our directly, unfiltered," Mr Johnson said to the news channel. Meanwhile, the Lodi News-Sentinel pointed out that politicians at every level are turning to Facebook and Twitter. Democrat Party representative Jerry McNerney is using Facebook to alert followers of when he will be visiting certain areas. The US mid-term elections take place tomorrow (November 2nd), with the Democrats expecting a drubbing from the voters. Posted by Rob ElliottArticle Added: 01/11/2010 14:21:24
