A Shrewsbury post office has temporarily closed its doors as a precaution after a routine audit.

A Shrewsbury post office has been closed and its subpostmistress suspended as a precaution after a routine audit, according to reports.

The Shropshire Star states that the Greenfields Post Office is currently closed while Rubbina Shaheen has been suspended pending further investigation.

A spokesperson for the Post Office told the news provider: "We would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused by the closure. We are working hard to reinstate post office services as quickly as possible."

The news of the closure comes just a year after Ms Shaheen fought to keep the local post office open, aided by community support.

It was recently reported that Bagillt Post Office in Flintshire has closed its doors following a bankruptcy order against the building's owners.

The Daily Post states that the Post Office is in discussion with the subpostmistress regarding future provision of services.
