A post office in Scarborough is to be closed as services at its site are being relocated.

People in East Ayton could be affected by the decision to close the local post office over this weekend.

Those looking to carry out parcel deliveries in the area may need to seek post office alternatives over the next few days, as the branch will reopen at its new site on the town's Main Street on Monday.

According to Scarborough Evening News, customers will be able to comment on the relocation until the start of July.

Angela Bettison, field change adviser for the move, told the newspaper that staff apologised for any inconvenience caused.

She added: "I am confident this relocation is the best way forward to help secure post office services in the longer term."

News of the closure has come after the North West Evening Mail revealed that a proposed reduction in services at a post office in the Lake District was criticised by local MP Tim Farron.
