Plans to axe Royal Mail workers could result in nationwide strikes by postal employees.People in the UK could be forced to look for alternative parcel delivery options as Royal Mail workers could be set to strike over proposed job cuts.Thousands of jobs have been earmarked to be cut by the Royal Mail, with the emergence of this threat emanating only two days after it was revealed a pay freeze will be imposed on all workers.It is believed the first strikes could hit London next month and leave people in the capital looking for Post Office alternatives for parcel delivery services.Martin Walsh, regional officer for the Communication Workers Union (CWU), said: "Our members are not prepared to accept such savage attacks on their jobs and services and they are ready to fight them."The CWU will ballot its members next week over the plans to cut jobs among postmen in the capital.It was recently revealed the CWU is planning a May Day rally and protest against the government's plans to part-privatise the Royal Mail.The march will begin at Clerkenwell Green in London, EC1, according to Hell Mail.Article Added: 27/04/2009 16:03:24
