Royal Mail employee took 60 ticketsBenedict Nagle stole tickets and gave them to his friends.

A member of staff at Royal Mail's Sighthill sorting office has pleaded guilty to stealing more than £3,600 worth of tickets for Six Nations rugby matches, it has been reported.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard 19-year-old Benedict Nagle stole 60 briefs, some of which he gave to his friends and others he allowed to expire, according to stv.tv.

Mr Nagle took 20 tickets for each of Scotland's games in the competition, which may encourage others to use the services of alternative parcel delivery providers such as Parcel2Go.com.

Fiscal depute Aidan Higgins said the employee had impressed during a six-week placement and was offered a job at Royal Mail.

"He was employed at a sorting centre in Sighthill and the package containing the rugby tickets caught his eye and he took the package. He gifted 18 tickets to persons who had been generous to him in the recent past," the news provider reports him as saying.

Meanwhile, Hampshire Police are appealing for witnesses after thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from a Royal Mail van in Southampton last week.
