Day two of the national strikes has begun, while more are planned next week.
Delivery and collection workers have become the latest Royal Mail staff to take part in a national postal strike in the ongoing dispute over jobs, pay and plans to modernise the postal service.
Yesterday, mail centre employees and drivers staged industrial action for 24 hours, with more than 42,000 taking part across the country.
The Communication Workers Union also announced that further strike action will be held next Thursday, meaning consumers and businesses may need to the services of alternative parcel delivery companies, such as Parcel2Go.com, to ensure their good reach their intended destination.
It comes after the prime minister, Gordon Brown, warned that further strikes could lead to job losses further down the line as people may turn to companies like Parcel2Go.com and stay with them for the long term.
This is a view echoed by Richard Adams-Mercer, director of Parcel2Go.com.
"While Parcel2Go.com benefits from an immediate 20 per cent increase in turnover during an industrial action, the approach isn't good for the postal system as a whole and will not halt further downsizing in the future," he said.
