Royal Mail makes final call on strike action

Royal Mail workers are striking today (July 17th)The Communication Workers Union has been urged by Royal Mail to rethink strike action taking place today (July 17th).

Royal Mail has once again urged postal workers to call off industrial action planned for today (July 17th).

The Communication Workers Union has been condemned for going ahead with the 24 hour strike, which could impact on parcel delivery services across the UK.

According to Royal Mail, the move will not have a major impact on its operations, but it called on the union to rethink the action as it was over modernisation plans that have already been implemented in a number of sites.

"The changes are all covered by the 2007 Agreement on Pay and Modernisation, which the CWU leadership signed in the presence of the Trades Union Congress but which they are now reneging on in a way that clearly hurts our customers and our people and damages Royal Mail," the company added in a statement.

Royal Mail operations in areas including Alloa, Basildon, Darlington, Edinburgh and Stoke are being affected by the strike, although Royal Mail adds the post office network will not be affected.
