Royal Mail 'is dying a shameful death'

Writer claims standards have slippedR$oyal Mail is not the institution it once was, writer says.

The Royal Mail's standards have slipped so far that it is a shadow of the organisation it once was, it has been claimed.

Andrew Ellson, personal finance editor at the Times, calls the company "a disgrace", saying that, whenever he uses the service, something goes wrong.

He cites the example of a letter he sent via Special Delivery a fortnight ago which has still not reached its destination, something which may encourage others to use alternative parcel delivery services.

"If Royal Mail cannot deliver safely a single letter for £4.95, after expressingly guaranteeing to do so, what hope is there for first or even second-class post? … Royal Mail is dying a shameful death," Mr Ellson states.

He also hits out at the decline in customer service from the organisation, with staff having little sympathy for him regarding his lost document.

The chaos surrounding Royal Mail in recent weeks saw Derbyshire-based clothing firm David Nieper end its 59-year association with the company, thisisderbyshire.co.uk reported.
